ODE FOR HIS MAJESTY'S BIRTH-DAY,
by Colley Cibber, Esq; Poet Laureat, and set to musick by
Dr. Greene, Master of his Majesty's Band of Musicians,
perform'd in the Great Council Chamber at St. James's before
the Royal Family, on Tuesday last.
  Recitativo.
Again to Caesar's natal day.
In humble strains,
His grateful swains,
Their joyous song shall raise,
  Air and Chorus.
Sing Britons, to Augustus sing!
Explore the proudest soil;
The world hath no such isle,
No nation such a King.
  Air.
While ambient seas his Albion guards,
Invasion, with desponding eyes,
Retracts her armament prepar'd,
And from the dreaded danger flies.
Or if conspiring stronger pow'rs,
The realms of weaker Princes seize,
Just GEORGE into the balance pours
His aid of arms, to poize the peace.
  Recitativo.
So when the fruitful fields,
Fierce tempest fear,
Jove rolls his thunder,
And serene's the air.
  Duet.
GEORGE, by nature's fence surrounded,
Reign's unenvious, o'er the isle;
Nor, seduc'd by sway unbounded,
Seeks another's right to spoil:
But when proud ambition raging,
Would her friends allied o'er throw,
GEORGE, in honour's cause engaging,
Weilds his sword, and wards the blow.
  Air.
Thus, when by Aelous uprais'd,
Loud roaring waves the sea deform;
By Neptune is the rage appeas'd,
And smiling seas succeed the storm.
  Chorus.
Then o'er the flood he sweeps his carr,
Proclaim his sway and kills the war.
